saturday...

i found out friday afternoon that i had to open then next day, AWESOME! there goes the camping plans with maresa. However, i sucked it up and we ended up camping, IN HER BACKYARD! it was all fine and dandy save the fact that i had to wake up at 6 for work, Stewart was a tired little boy.
Work was slow but i had the fact that it was maresa's last day in town before leaving for college looming over myself. So i got off of work and got to see Maresa for a few hours, we went to the beach and goleta pier, the water was so clear and you could see all of the fish just waiting for me to catch them, but i only had a couple hours before it was time to say goodbye and go to gorilla biscuits.
Then came a very painful and very hard goodbye followed by a very pointless car ride to pomona, long story short we got about 20 minutes away from the show and Benji's tire EXPLODES! which also somehow ruined his battery so we got towed back to ventura. however i will say that our tow truck driver "randy" was much more entertaining than any show you could go to, the choice randy quote would have to be, "two things i do til the day i die, i keep the hair long and i smoke the herb" and let your mind meditate on that for a while unless it starts to cook cause when i get randy on the ol' dome my mind is blaaaazin'. what a beautiful 66 year old man who claims to have smoked weed with snoop dogg he is.

anyways this was somewhat of a godsend, because i got to get home early and see Maresa once more.

saying goodbye to someone that is so dear to you that you get to spend everyday with is very tough and santa barbara is a pretty empty place with out maresa, but i know i didnt take a single second for granted and that i am very blessed to have ever even met her in the first place and i trust that everything will be ok.
if anything this is just motivation for me to get the college life going...
either way this school year is going to be a very tough one...

+'s/-'s :

+It is summer, and i have been going to the beach almost everyday
-Summer is almost over, and i have 14 units plus work hanging over my head

+The tide was so low at Goleta beach that their was no slough and consequently the water was clean and clear!
-Because there was no slough the bacteria was building up and the city was forced to dig a new slough, one that
is absurdly large and one that has ruined the beach there for the time being

+I am going to see Silver Jews on their first tour in september!
-It has proved to be a costly endeavor with ticketmaster's building charge, convenience charge, and processing fee!
Almost doubling the cost of my ticket, BUILDING CHARGE what the heck is that! isnt the price of the whole ticket
what the building is charging!

-The realization that you are not a song writing genious like all of your idols is a long painful road

either way go purchase the reissue of Sebadoh's "III" Lou Barlow in his finest hour!

I saw Bill Cosby in the flesh!

it was everything i have always wanted since my conception!

I had the time of my short pathetic life...

Appleseed Cast was awesome as expected, so was trying to find parking in the butthole of hollywood.

i absolutely hate LA.

and Hurricane Harbor was fun a couple days ago, it begged the questions:

1)Why isnt Tom Arnold in more movies? i mean he had the gonads to marry Roseanne so give him an oscar or grammy or whatever

2)What the heck happened to Chris Kattan?

3)Why isnt Hurricane Harbor Jurassic Park themed?

Good Gravy, what an excited couple of days i just had, and what an exciting couple of days i have ahead of me...

Sunday Night i saw Sonic Youth for the first time, i thought our seats were going to be on some balcony near the nose bleeds, but the forum turned out to be a fairly small place and we were much closer than expected! Finally seeing them live felt so good, they played all new songs except for "Tom Violence" off EVOL (which he dedicated to Tom Verlaine, the genious of the band Television) and "Mote" off of Goo, seriously no band can touch what that band is possible of doing live, they have been at it for 20+ years and they have complete control over the sound they create together, i have never heard or seen anything like it and i wanted to cry and puke all at the same time, and to top it off Maresa bought me a Sonic Youth Beach towel, glorious! Even more glorious was leaving before Pearl Jam played, because i dont like that band.

then last night

I saw them again for free at the Jimmy Kimmel show, the line to get in wasnt bad and there wasnt a whole lot of people, it was relaxing and easy to get a good spot, it was basically like seeing one of the smaller side stage bands at warped tour, everyone who was there for sonic youth waited outside (where the concert part of the show is filmed, in the back parking lot behind the studio) while they film the show, the guests were tracy morgan, some football player, and some indy car driver girl who had a fat head. Jimmy Kimmel is a trashy retard, and 96% of the time is not even funny! After screwing up not once but twice saying "up next we have music from eagles of death metal" it was time for Sonic Youth to play, effing Tracy Morgan came out and shook hands with the band then sat on the couch on stage and was later joined by stupid Jimmy Kimmel and amazing SARA SILVERMAN! Seeing Sonic Youth on stage with Tracy Morgan and Sara Silverman was surreal enough, but seeing this band that i have idolized for years up close playing a FREE NINE SONG SET was unbelievable!, again, all new songs except for "(I've Got A) Catholic Block" off Sister and "Shaking Hell" off Confusion is Sex(!!!)
Me, Maresa, Dave and Kel, didnt get much (if any) air time despite our attempts (except for the shots of Jimmy Kimmel and Tracy Morgan saying their goodnights, you can see me in the background jumping up and down with my arms in the air as everyone was just standing there), and despite the efforts of the Jimmy Kimmel hype man, this big loud bald guy who would get everyone excited for the cameras and hold up any sonic youth merch they might have, he secured a spot in my, "you sewww cray-zayy" book when after filming some crowd shot he screamed into the microphone, "YOU GUYS WENT SONIC YOUTH CRAZ-EEEE!!!" The show was really good and special and funny but it didnt end there!

After the show we raced to Tower Records for a meet the band autograph signing thing, while we waited outside guess who got into his car and almost hit us with it, CHRIS ROCK! so not only was sonic youth on stage with Tracy Morgan, but they were in the same record store as Chris Rock, Steve Shelley (the drummer) parked right where me and maresa happened to be walking, and no one else saw him, so i got to get my picture taken with him, basically meeting them was incredible and pointless when you think about it, cause i didnt have anything to say to them, they have heard and seen it all, but it was a really good experience meeting one of the most important and legendary bands of our time and i will never forget it!

Now tomorrow i set sail to see Bill Cobsy Live!

[ music | Sonic Youth - I Love Her All The Time ]

It's been quite a summer so far...

The Fourth of July was eventful, and its definately my favorite day of the summer, Santa Barbara is one big party.

Built To Spill was really unbelievable live, they didnt play much of the fan favorites, but it was better that way, they opened with that song, "car" which was dedicated to their old drummer that died like a month ago, and it was a trip after that, thats the kind of show i like to see, and i have to get me one of them, Maestro Echo Boxes, which will be impossible to track down but i will be able to make sweet music after i get it...

Either way Built To Spill set the bar for the rest of the shows of the summer,

...and Belle & Sebastian raised that very bar!
Their show at the hollywood bowl was definately one of the best shows i have ever been to and i knew while watching it from up close, which is where we snuck to, that i would never witness another show like this, it was one huge party with 18,000 people, i could never completely explain it but the people that were there know what im talking about!
right pat?

and now tonight, AFTER MY BASKETBALL GAME to benefit Uganda of all basketball lovin' countries, i am going to see SONIC YOUTH!!!! then i am seeing them again for free on tuesday!

then on thursday i am seeing the mighty bill cosby and appleseed cast the next day!

who else can say they saw Belle and Sebastian, Sonic Youth (twice), Bill Cosby and Appleseed Cast all in a weeks time?

the point of this post was simply to brag...

[ music | Ugly Duckling - Left Behind! ]

So work is eating away at my sanity, and its my fault, i mean that job isnt hard, especially now cause its really slow, but darnit! when i have to open that is the only thing on my mind the night before, and then i have to go to bed early! and i wake up and feel like crap and have a headache the whole day, if i close, i dont do anything before work, and if i do after its usually just for a couple hours and then i have to open the next morning, its an easy job, i just need to get it off my mind but its hard when my head is constantly hurting, my stupid nerdy allergies arent helping either.

but on a positive note, i saw built to spill last night, and it was seriously way better than i could have ever even imagined, they didnt play any of my favorites, save a few like big dipper and some golden oldies, but they were soo incredible and i've never experienced a wall of sound quite like that, seeing them is hard to explain, but i will say they were one of the best bands i have ever seen and they really set the bar for the rest of the summer, like broken social scene, appleseed cast, sonic youth, and belle & sebastian!

p.s. everyone needs to meet my new pet rat, Mortimer Snerd.

yes that is indeed a poster for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie.

This weekend i am going up north for my cousins wedding where im going to usher, i wish i was going to become usher the singer, just for a day, but sadly im just going to usher, and i have no idea what im doing, its in monterey and i got to get new shoes and pants for it without paying a cent of my own money which is pretty cool, not to mention all of the free food and what not this weekend. However, im missing out on some parrrtays this weekend and getting sick from Maresa, but theres plenty of time to be coughed on when i return.

Garretts car was broken into in the middle of day and his ipod was stolen, i felt like i was on one of them crime solvin tv shows just looking at it, but who would have guessed it, johnny law was on our side this time! and the stupid wanna be gangster kid was caught! SUCKER!

i also read in the paper this morning about how evangelists are playing god again and trying to speed up the apocolypse process, trent lott mississippi's racist poster boy is doing his part by, "trying to raise a herd of perfect red cows"(im not kidding) which are apparrantly needed in jerusalem to finish the reconstruction of a holy temple which will signal jesus' return, and the guy who started promise keepers chipping in and said the end is "soon, very soon." and that all who oppose "are toast", our methods of conversion are unrivaled!

I have seen so many good bumper stickers in the last week, for example, "GET FAT", "Deal with it!"(which was on the back of an effing WHEELCHAIR!), "If it aint Dutch, It aint much", and last but not least, one that simply said, "Bumper Sticker".

Ventura was fun, Jordan and Casey make me laugh.

I love Mtv and crap invading my culture and music, and selling it by making themselves seem independent or DIY. Im not stupid, i've been around, when all this music wasnt cool, and now ive seen it explode and people jock everything i used to love, i hate everything, i need some candy to calm me down.

Jared Daglis just made 3 glorious posts in a row, god bless him!

yowza, my birthday party was amazing, and i hope all who attended had a great time, it was really great seeing everyone finally, im bummed out i missed black peter, and that lots of my ventura friends couldnt make it out, but dang, american pride cake, spending 150 dollars of pizza and soda, trevor developing drug addictions, and all in the comfort of the party room at rustys pizza!

i spent my actual birthday at goleta beach, me and maresa dug a hole and magically cooked steak above that hole, got sunburt, maresa got blistered feetz, the water was so warm, basically i couldnt have spent my birthday weekend a better way with better people...

now as far as yesterday (06/06/06) went, we spent it in the most EEVVVILLLL way! we went to the zoo and saw the new penguins and then watched the most satanic movie of them all OVER THE HEDGE, the dark lord himself snuck us in!

p.s. the new penguins are ugly and they smell, but its pretty incredible none the less...

wow, too much to update about.
basicallly willlld weekend, la, sleeping in my car, and hurricane katrina harbor!
it was amazing

plus, i was realllly sick all weekend, my boss tells me i had hoof and mouth disease or something and this neurologist (without having looked at my throat or anything) based on my symptoms guessed that i had menangitis, i dont know what either of those are, but i dont want them EVER AGAIN, fever of 104! FUN! and that wasnt even on the worst night! before that my fever was way worse, and several times throughout being sick i almost went to the hospital, i was hallucinating again one night, and i thought a demon was attached to my back, he was bald and pretty terrifying, his arms and legs went into mine from behind and controlled them (kind of like how bats arms fade into their wings, hard to explain) but he kept talking to me and waking me up and he woke me up at 6 am, and he really really pissed me off, he was mean.

but anyways heres the point of the post...

im glad kurt cobaine is dead, nirvana hogs all the credit, dinosaur jr completely annihilates anything nirvana ever did!

J Mascis wrote incredible songs and covered them in crap and noise, while nirvana just wrote straight crap, i cant deny their nostalgic value, and i admit that i wouldnt hate nirvana if they didnt get alllllllll of the credit that they do, and were at the top of every "best of" list, and it is mostly their retarded fans fault whom launched them to that level, but that IS the case and therefore, i hate nirvana!

damien jurado is definately the bulk of what i listen to now, him and tom waits, you cant go wrong with that pair.

i had a dream last night that i was old and homeless, i had lost everything that i have now, i had dropped out of school, and i would watch people eat ice cream but i couldnt have it, my homeless friend ate his own fecal matter and was very sick, it was terrible, i really appreciate the life i have going for me, and i pray i dont ever screw it up!
the only up side was i found a bunch of old aquabats flyers in the creek where i lived!

while everyone was suffering in the fog we were living it up in 80 degree weather up in the mountains! white rock to the max!

last night was my philosophy final and i did a poor job, it was difficult though and i know i did better than most if not all in that class, all thats left is my history final which im not too worried about...

i finally finally finished what i have been slaving away at the past couple weeks...
MY PHILOSOPHY PAPER, "explain justice in the context of the republic of plato."
yeah explain why you are giving this assignment to my already drained brain.
doesnt matter, I DID IT, ALL 16 PAGES AND 5000 WORDS OF IT!
and i got an "A" on my rather large history paper!
As stressful as these past couple weeks have been, with all the papers i have had to write, i think it was well worth it...
A) i am pretty darn proud of MA-self
B) it will make summer seem that much better, whats the point of summer vacation if it isnt liberating you from some overbearing school load!

now all thats left are my two finals, which i am not TOO worried about, and then summer vacation

going to the Ymca, the beach, red and white rocks alike, the price is right, the sand dunes, and whereever else.

OH AND DOING POUNDS UPON POUNDS OF BLOW!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
